It is the follow-up to 2006's highly successful The Sufferer & the Witness.
The album is the band's third release on a major label, and also their first release with current guitarist Zach Blair.
Appeal to Reason is also Rise Against's highest ever charting album, debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling about 65,000 copies in its first week of release.
