In November 2005, Job for a Cowboy recorded a self-financed EP entitled Doom, that attracted the attention of Arizona independent label King of the Monsters, who distributed the disc after an initial self-released pressing by the band.

After an extensive tour promoting Doom, the band signed a deal with Metal Blade Records, who re-issued the EP with a bonus track. In February 2006, they played at The Los Angeles Murderfest festival at The Knitting Factory in Hollywood, California—along with Disgorge, Impaled and With Passion.

Later in 2006, Andrew Arcurio left Job for a Cowboy, and new guitarist Bobby Thompson joined the group, on October the band parted ways with drummer Elliott Sellers.
