The Misfits are an American horror punk band formed in 1977 in New Jersey, led by singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig and later, bassist Jerry Only.

They were pioneers of the subgenre of horror punk, as well as highly influential on heavy metal, and rock music in general.

Though they ceased recording and performing in 1983, a new version of the band (led by Only but without Danzig) began operations in 1995.
